About Us...
Introduction
Bushmead Primary School is a Community School under the auspices of Luton Education Authority (LEA) and caters for children aged 4 to 11 years old. The school was formed by amalgamating Bushmead Infant School with Bushmead Junior School in September 2000.
Outline & Organisation The current school building is a combination of the former Infant and Junior school buildings and an extension to both schools which was completed in 1999. The facilities within the building include 2 school halls, 2 ICT suites and 27 classrooms. Additionally there are 3 mobile classrooms, 2 of which are used by Key Stage 2 classes whilst the 3rd is used as a Music room.
The children are usually grouped in mixed ability classes of the same age and are taught mainly by their class teacher. However, in Year 2 and at Key Stage 2, year groups are re-organised to form groups according to mathematical ability. In this way, we feel that the most able and the least able children are more likely to reach ther full potential in mathematics. On occasions, children may be taught by other specialist teachers, i.e. music.
Philosophy The philosophy of the school is to create and sustain a secure, caring and stimulating environment which fosters the social, physical, spiritual, intellectual and aesthetic development of each child, thus enabling them to become confident and fulfilled both as an individual and as a member of a changing society.
Aims of the school The school follows the National Curriculum guidelines. This has 2 main aims:
